Picture presentation
If you have a saved image (in png, jpg or svg format) that you want to make available within a web document or include it in a formatted document in AyMINE, you can use the Public URL feature. The image is available from the Internet using this URL, and you can also link the image to the document or formatted text in AyMINE.
Note: Function might not be available for you or for your oragnisation. More about that here.
You should know
Why insert images as embedded files?
You can insert images directly (CTRL + V directly into the document) into a formatted document, but there are some drawbacks:
- If the image is large, it is automatically compressed and its quality is worse. If you want to display larger images or more images in one document, you need to use files.
- Texts with embedded images cannot be automatically translated because the compilers cannot handle the images.
Why not, on the other hand, use links to images?
To display embedded images in a document, web browsers need to have access to the image. The images are therefore available from the internet. Their link cannot be traced, but if you share it with someone, they are also available to users outside AyMINE.
Image is typically stored (cached) between the server and the browser. Therefore, if you change an image in a document but do not change the link to it, people who have already viewed the image page are likely to see the original image. How long the change takes depends on their computer and server settings, and the time cannot be predetermined. If you want to change the published image, it is more reliable to insert a new image to the object as a new document and use a new link.
Inserting images into documents is primarily intended for published information on public bulletin boards, where this is desirable. It is not suitable for internal documents, and should never be used if the image contains classified information, such as product drawings!
